Mining investments in Peru fell 11.07% in 2014

Mining investments in Peru fell 11.07% this year compared to the same period last year according to Gestion.

Investments fell in the mining industry in 2014 despite having its biggest bout of investments in December with US$ 939,680,881 total for the ultimate month.

Mining companies invested US$ 8.643 billion in Peru in 2014 which registers as a drop of 11.07% from the same period in 2013 from US$ 9.719 billion, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM).

Hardest hit in the mining industry was the investment in equipment which saw a decrease of 37.79% in investments. The Directorate General of Mines of MEM claims the recorded drop fell from US$ 1.4 billion in 2013 to US$ 873.59 million in 2014.

Further affected were the areas of mining exploration and infrastructure that saw a decrease of 19.60% and 20.35% respectively. The sector of “preparation” also recorded a decrease in investments of 15.41% and following was the “other” category that fell 9.90% in investments in 2014.

At the same time, Dec. 2014 performed the best in investments recording US$ 939,680,000 ahead of May 2014 with US$ 804,000,000.
