     Tunis, — Minister of Foreign Affairs Mongi Hamdi conferred, on Thursday in Tunis, with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation José Manuel Garcia-Margallo.

     Mongi Hamdi said the visit of the Spanish FM is " a strong signal of Spain's commitment to supporting Tunisia in its process of democratic transition," a ministry statement reads.

     Addressing regional issues of mutual interest, the minister stated the willingness of Tunisia to host an expanded extraordinary summit of the 5+5 Dialogue to discuss the developments of the situation in the region, particularly security challenges, the statement added.

     The Spanish FM reiterated, on his part, his country's commitment to supporting the Tunisian democratic experience which "is an inspiration for all countries of the region."

     He announced that his country will participate in the international conference "Investing in Tunisia" to be held on September 8, 2014.

     The Spanish FM also emphasised the active role of Spain in European bodies to develop co-operation between the European Union and its partners in the South of the Mediterranean for a shared area of prosperity, peace and solidarity, according to the same source. 

     The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on institutional support to the Secretariat of State for Women and the Family for the advancement of rural women.

     The MoU also provides for encouraging the development of public policies that promote equality and regional development.
